"Rico
Alexander Andrade has been performing ever since he was allowed
on stage, which was during his kindergarten years. As a child, he
was always dancing whenever he heard music. His parents encouraged
him and supported his interest in dancing as he learnt his early
steps of Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue and Tango from them.
After the community
expressed great interest in his dancing, he attended formal studies
of Jazz Ballet and Classical Dance for over three years. During this
time and while he was attending Senior High, he undertook performance
commitments with a theatre dance company and performed in various
countries of South America.
Rico has also featured as a
TV presenter for a Cultural and Artistic show. Rico went to study
International Law at the University of Central America where he learnt
about this interesting, new country “Australia”. He fell
in love with the uniqueness of the land and the friendliness of native
Australians and other cultures that have made Australia their new
home. He felt he was willing and able to contribute to the development
of the Australian artistic community and immigrated to Australia 14
years ago.
Since Rico arrived in Australia, he has been busy in
developing and working on various community projects whilst also working
on his other professional interests of graphic design and photography.
He has attended various professional modeling, acting
and dancing workshops to familiarise himself with Australian dancing
standards. Currently he is also studying singing.
He has performed with the Australian Opera at the Brisbane
Performing Arts Centre, danced for Channel 7 shows, featured in national
and international TV commercials and performed for different private
and corporate functions.
As the interest in Latin music and dancing grew in
Brisbane he was requested to teach his native dances from South America.
Rico has been teaching his favourite Latin dance “Salsa”
in Brisbane for over 13 years.
He is a strong supporter and promoter of Latin dance
and music culture in Brisbane. He prefers to teach Salsa because Salsa
music is a mixture of different Latin rhythms; therefore, it is full
of rhythmic sounds appealing to everyone’s varied taste in music
making it easier to dance to.
Having taught in
Paddington for over 10 years, in 2004 he founded Rico’s Salsa
Club in response to the greater community interest in his dance teaching
in Brisbane. This has proven to be a successful cultural program that
has grown rapidly into an exciting and popular dance event. Another
exciting Salsa Classes program coming up soon.
His eminent and natural dancing talent has inspired
thousands of people. As we now enjoy the latest Pop Latin music, nearly
everywhere we go there is a huge rush to learn the exciting Latin
moves. As a result, Rico’s Salsa Classes are becoming increasingly
popular.
He is a patient and talented teacher and provides a
fun atmosphere in which to learn. His introduction to Latin dance
movements makes it easier to learn more complex steps for beginners
and for the more coordinated he is always happy to teach those impressive
“Caliente” (HOT) steps. You will find him dedicated and
he will pay attention so that you learn the basics correctly to ensure
your progress and enjoyment of Salsa dancing.
If dancing is the love of your life, Rico is currently
looking for new Latin dancers to be part of the Rico's Salsa Club
Dance Company for upcoming professional performances with all training
provided. For selection criteria please email: rico@ricos.com.au
